    Abstract

    This paper outlines a study into the formulation and implementation of a Manufacturing Strategy in a major UK company. The approach is described and a number of guidelines are proposed. Firstly we outline our approach that consisted of a seven point plan to ensure compatibility with work already carried out by the company. Next the paper describes the experience of strategy formulation within the company. this includes an appraisal of the level of management commitment, vertical integration, process of strategy formulation and the ultimate success of the strategy. The paper concludes with a number of guidelines for linking manufacturing strategy and process improvement.
