Logistics for the installation phase of an offshore wind farm

Abstract

REW are a large UK energy operating company who in the planning phase for construction of their newest and largest offshore wind project so far. The wind farm site for which they have a permit is based at Eccles Bank, off the East Anglian Coast and is a prime site for offshore wind electricity generation. However, the distance from shore and the size of the wind farm in terms of size, number of turbines and geographical area covered present REW with a new level of logistics challenges. They must therefore carefully consider their key strategic logistics decisions include the choice and layout of their support port and their vessel and personnel scheduling before the construction phase commences.
