    Abstract

The mechanical properties of an ApaPore-60/allograft mix using a femoral impaction grafting model for revision hip replacements was investigated. Allograft was impacted in half(Group A) and a 50:50 mix of allograft and ApaPore-60 in other half (Group M). The femoral head was cut off each sawbone and the cancellous bone was impacted into the sawbone using the modified hammer and the forces to measure the consistency of the technique. It was observed that during impaction of the graft the average mean distal impaction force in Group A was 14.6±8kN, and in Group M 14.4±1.4kN.
