    Abstract

This publication has been produced to assist physicians assessing the fitness of individuals to wear, and work in, respiratory protective equipment (RPE). The basis of any decision needs to be firmly grounded in the risk assessment process, taking into account the risk which may be posed either to the wearer or to others by any underlying medical condition alongside the physiological demands of circumstances of use and of the equipment.

This publication was produced by the Energy Institute’s Health Technical Committee and will be of primary interest to occupational physicians working in the international oil and gas industry.
