Meeting Report—Water Status Monitoring under the WFD Conference

The Water Status Monitoring under the WFD Conference (Water Status Monitoring of Aquatic Ecosystems in the context of the Water Framework Directive) was held at the Le Nouveau Sie` cle, Lille, France between 12–14th March, 2007. The principal sponsors were three scientific and professional bodies in the UK namely, the Institution of Water Officers, SCI (Environment Group) and the Royal Society of Chemistry (Water Science Forum). The event comprised of 27 lectures with some 88 science and water policy posters being presented. A small exhibition of new equipment and software products for water monitoring was held throughout the three days. The meeting attracted 283 delegates from 30 countries with attendees being drawn from the scientific, regulatory and policy making communities. The conference provided a forum for delegates to network and exchange ideas, and to review the progress of Member States in the implementation of the European Union’s WFD.
