    Abstract

Non-contact giant magnetoresistance (GMR) of synthetic spin valves was measured using infrared reflection spectroscopy. The sputtered synthetic spin valve samples studied consisted of a pinned layer of an antiferromagnetically coupled CoFe/Ru/CoFe trilayer. The spectra were collected at room temperature in an applied magnetic field up to a maximum of ±13 kOe.
