Abstract
This output is one part of a practice research portfolio consisting of 12 performances, two journal articles, and two unpublished scripts. The Veterans Project is a performance of curated oral histories shared by military veterans with the communities in which they live.
This iteration, performed at the Association for Theatre in Higher Education conference in Boston, MA, USA, was the conference-specific recreation of the performance created as part of a veteran-focused series of programming on the campus of St Lawrence University in Canton, NY. It combined performance with dramaturgical contextualisation by director Erika Hughes. The all-female cast of veterans wove veteran stories and written artefacts together with excerpts from Homer’s Odyssey. The veterans onstage had served in the US Army, Marines, and Air Force. The performance centred on the idea of home, and how that notion changes when one leaves and returns.
