The main objectives of this chapter are:
- to examine the concept of redundancy as a feature of human resource management;
- to identify the principal causes of redundancies;
- to consider how managers in organizations handle redundancies;
- to distinguish the main alternatives to making people compulsorily redundant;
- to assess the impact of redundancy exercises on the workers affected, including remaining employees, and the implications for managing human resources
