    Abstract

The first movement of the first ‘Razumovsky’ quartet is striking for its range of registers – not just the use of high and low notes but the changing amounts of space between them. When highest and lowest notes are plotted on a graph of the whole movement, contributed in collaboration with the varying amounts of space between them are strikingly evident. This paper draws upon Digital Musicology techniques to explore the use of pitch and registral space in Beethoven's ‘Razumovsky’ Quartet.
