Abstract

The design of pre-tensioned bridge beams can be very complex and often requires recent technological advances to be taken into account. The Elasto-magnetic (or magneto-elastic) method for measuring mechanical stress and thus force in the pre-stressing steel was used to determine the state of stress and the influence of different rheological phenomena on beam performance. Designed force values from computer analysis and the results measured at the prefabrication site are compared for different times of stressing. Finally through computer analysis a design model was chosen and techniques for successful implementation were resolved.
