Abstract

Crimewatch has been helping the police solve crimes for over 24 years and has an impressivetrack record. This article explains the history of the programme, the process of having a casefeatured and how it can be a useful investigative tool for SIOs. It also features two casestudies that highlight this usefulness and some of the issues involved.The author would like to thank Michael Armit (Series Producer for BBC Crimewatch) and twosenior investigators (who for reasons of confidentiality cannot be named) for their invaluablecontribution to the production of this article.
