Serena Williams: Race, representation and feminism

This article considers Serena Williams as a case study through which we may examine and explore the many interlinking facets of African American women’s history, culture and activism, as well as better comprehend often complex historical and contemporary issues concerning constructs of race and gender in the U.S. It utilises scholarly, archival and media research relating to existing debates on intersectionality, contemporary feminist discourse, representation, and African American women in sport.
