abstract = "Data visualisation of 4 separate engine conditions. The data visualisation utilises the intuitive perception of errors and the body{\textquoteright}s alert response. Drawing on theoretical ideas of Gestalt theory, embodied metaphor and image schemata, this process addresses pre-linguistic user understanding. Numerical sensor data is translated back into a form related to the original analogue motion – making the internal workings of the ship engine perceivable remotely. Through the design parameters of circular motion, rhythm, speed, colour and form, this not only widens the audience that can make sense of the data, but also makes it into a more intuitive, efficient and pleasant process.",
