Abstract

For the implementation of a universal carrier recovery loop within the context of a universal demodulator, the digital loop with baseband signal processing proved to be more efficient and agile than an adapted Costa loop. This is made possible by the unique error signal waveform of this loop. The original architecture indicate that the baseband recovery loop offers reliable synchronisation for all constellations with quadrant symmetry. A range of PSK and QAM signal sets confirmed this by simulation. In general, the final simulation model satisfied all the specification requirements for the loop.
