    Abstract

This paper outlines the variation in air temperature in the eastern Pyrenees (Pyrenees Orientales), in particular examining the role of topography. As part of a research programme investigating the relationship between the distribution of the Saddle-backed bushcricket (Ephippiger ephippiger) and climate, an extensive temperature database has been created. This allows us to examine the spatial and temporal variation in the temperature field. In particular this case-study illustrates the importance of the interaction between local scale aspect, synoptic conditions and coastal influences in controlling mountain temperatures.
