    Abstract

I read John Mingers' article on management science and multimethodology (Mingers, 2006) with interest. I would support both his argument that statistical methods have an important role to play in management science, and his argument that it is also very important to be aware of the limitations and presuppositions of statistical approaches. There is surprisingly little in the literature by way of a general critique of statistics (as opposed to a critique of particular concepts or approaches such as null hypothesis testing), and I think Mingers has provided a valuable contribution here. I would, however, like to make the following comments.
