Supply chain collaboration in the food industry: a literature review

This chapter reviews, analyzes, and synthesizes the current state of research into supply chain collaboration in the food industry. Mainly, we investigate the recent contribution of supply chain collaboration to the food industry and identify how supply chain collaboration should contribute to the future food industry. The systematic literature review approach adopted here examines 158 papers on supply chain collaboration and the food industry published between 2000 and 2021. This study found that the benefits of collaboration for food firms can be broadly categorized into operations, finance, food safety and quality, food loss and waste, food insecurity, resilience, and sustainability. We also identify collaboration mechanisms and factors affecting collaboration in the food industry. Finally, this study develops a research framework and suggests critical future research directions for supply chain collaboration in the food industry.
