    Abstract

    The main objectives of this chapter are:
    -to explain the nature of the external environment of an organization whether it be private for-profit, private not-for-profit, or in the public sector;
    - to apply, whilst understanding its limitations, the STEEPLE (or PESTLE) framework to analyse the external environment of an organization;
    - to develop critical awareness of the dynamic and complex nature of the external environments that organizations face on a daily basis;
    - to explore, using appropriate concepts and frameworks, the ways in which the external environment can affect organizations and be affected by organizational influence.
