    Abstract

The Fundamentals of Architecture is an introduction to the basic ideas that inform architecture. It guides students through the rich history of the discipline, and acquaints them with contemporary theory and practice. The book explores the process of architecture starting from the initial ideas and concepts, and how these ideas are informed by an understanding of the site. It examines the impact of physical context and historical precedent on a project, and the development of structure, materials and the relationship of these practical concerns to the building process. This is the perfect companion for students of architecture, accessible yet comprehensive, with text broken up into logical sections and complemented by a wide selection of images.
