Abstract

Remote working: once the preserve of the occasional “working from home” day, has now become a fixture of post-pandemic professional life. For UK higher education staff, encompassing both academics and professional services, this shift has raised profound questions about work quality, autonomy and institutional culture. Is remote working a progressive step forward or a necessary evil that can erode collegiality and productivity? Further, and crucially, how does it compare to in-person working in different academic settings?
