    Abstract

    The main objectives of this chapter are:
    - to examine the concept of strategy, the variety of ways strategic decisions are made within different organizations, and the implications for HRM;
    - to emphasize the importance of viability for companies and the relationship viability has to the firm's human resources;
    to evaluate critically the different approaches to aligning strategy with people management practices.
