N2 - This output is one part of a practice research portfolio consisting of 12 performances, two journal articles, and two unpublished scripts. The Veterans Project is a performance of curated oral histories shared by military veterans with the communities in which they live. This iteration was created as part of the ‘America in Times of Conflict - Creating Peace from Conflict’ series of public programming in Chandler, Arizona, USA. It wove veteran stories and written artefacts together with excerpts from Homer’s Odyssey. The veterans onstage - one cisgendered woman, one transgendered man, and two cisgendered men, had served in the US Army, Marines, and Navy. The performance centred on the idea of home, and how that notion changes when one leaves and returns.
