Abstract

This chapter summarises the trends in crime, victimisation and punishment in the three United Kingdom jurisdictions (England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) from 1980 to 2003. Because current influences on crime and techniques for managing crime are common throughout the Western world, the chapter also considers trends in other countries, in particular, those in Europe.
