Abstract

The Solent Future Transport Zone Freight Consolidation Project, funded by the UK Department for Transport, aims to explore and demonstrate new micro-consolidation concepts for making urban logistics more sustainable, reducing the negative environmental and social impacts of goods movement in the Solent region in addition to minimising financial costs.

This paper presents a Multi-modal Two-echelon Location Routing model for Freight micro-consolidation centres. In the first echelon, goods are transferred from supplier depots to micro-consolidation centres with trucks. The second echelon is the last mile delivery of parcels to the final customers using e-vans and e-cargo bikes.
