    Abstract

    This chapter looks at the development and role of corporate governance which in recent years, has been thrust into the limelight as a result of corporate scandals and failures in governance linked to the global financial crisis. This chapter will consider: · Meaning and models of corporate governance and how boards operate · UK guidelines and requirements of boards as specified in the UK Corporate Governance Code (‘the Code’) · A case study which considers the relevance and role of HRM and people management in corporate governance.
