N2 - The State of Fashion 2018 | Searching for the new luxury explored a new sense of conscious consumerism, by embracing state-of-the-art technologies, innovative production methods and ingenious business models, and by exploring the area where science and fashion meet. The exhibition showcased a range of concepts that evoke a better and more resilient world. My film 'unmaking' was installed as part of the 'New Imaginations' area of the exhibition, where it was placed within a diverse set of sustainability driven projects. The film dialogued with the other works installed by resonating with the sustainability agenda of the surrounding brands and artists. My film Unmaking seeks to deconstruct preconceptions about the relationship between body, clothing, production and consumption. Intended as a means of reflection and resistance, the film refers to a post-productivist condition of fashion by exposing the limits of production driven by overproduction within the increasingly global market of the 21st century. This film is a part of larger theoretical research entitled 'Towards a practice of unmaking: a strategy for critical fashion practices', debating the role of fashion practitioners and questioning fashion’s critical agency. Opening a discussion about fashion industry’s ceaseless overproduction/overconsumption chain, my reflective and radically critical stand brought me to guide my practice in a more activist and artistic direction, producing mostly videos, films and texts instead of collections, which pled for a change of ways in which fashion system operates today.
