Abstract

The advent of the unmanned aerial vehicle4 (UAV) in recent years has brought a new dynamic to the aircrew/aircraft nexus, with the former being removed from both the cockpit and the battle space. Understandably, given the rapid technological advances that are being made and the nature of counter-insurgency operations in Afghanistan in particular, debate is dominated by the art of what is technically and militarily possible, both today and in the future.
