Variable mode model predictive control for minimizing the thermal stress in electric drives

Abstract

Control scheme based on variable mode model predictive control is proposed in this paper. By augmenting the conventional model predictive controller with a variable cutoff-frequency/order, an additional degree of the objective function allows for optimal tradeoff between the thermal stress reduction and the harmonic performance. Both the simulation and experimental results have validated the effectiveness of the proposed method.
