Venenum Hominum: Rethinking Musical Presence in the Digital Age: Clausura - Reviviscens

Research output: Contribution to conferenceOther

Abstract

Venenum Hominum is a multi-movement work for solo cello and Digital Orchestra, exploring the boundaries between acoustic performance and digital sound. The ‘tape’ part is crafted using Spitfire Audio libraries and studio recordings of Swallow. The fusion of pre-recorded and live elements creates a multi-layered, expressive dialogue that questions boundaries between acoustic and electronic performance. Each movement develops distinct interactions between performer and processed sound, from quiet disruption to climactic confrontation.

This presentation will share work-in-progress on developing live performance that responds to completed compositions (that also feature the performer). The aim is to explore a cyclical loop between fixed media and live improvisation—reintegrating the cellist’s presence into an evolving digital space. In doing so, the project interrogates the liminality of sound in the digital age and reflects on how human expression might be re-embedded, displaced, or reimagined within technological frameworks.
