Research output: Other contribution

Abstract

This submission explains why increased collaboration in defence procurement with
European partners both can enhance the broader outcomes of UK defence
procurement projects but also provide a method through which the UK’s defence
industrial base, and protect the UK’s defence industrial base from international
competition, particularly from the United States. Through the maintenance of a
national defence industrial base, the UK will be able to remain world leading in this
field; maintaining high skilled jobs that attract inward investment, providing export
orders that will boost the national balance of payments and allow the UK to maintain
a positive influence on the global stage. Greater political involvement raises the
question as to why there is not a greater degree of collaboration on projects amongst
nations outside of the realm of aerospace procurement.
