What does the tradwife movement have to do with superheroes? The latest season of the satirical comedy show Gen V tackles this head on in Episode 2. The character, Modesty Monarch, is emblematic of the growing interest in the tradwife movement in social media. The show effectively captures the tension between housewives and feminists in the postfeminist, digital age, particularly regarding the tradwife movement’s perpetuation of traditional gender roles. Although, this review argues that whilst the show offers a fantastic depiction of the tradwife movement, the show does continue the tradition in popular cultural constructions of ignoring how tradwives themselves are restricted by patriarchal social structures that all women must navigate.
