Abstract
The US Academy of Management is the largest academic group for Business Schools and holds a conference every year in August. Three academics from the University of Portsmouth attended this conference and have been invited to disseminate what is hot in HR . The Anaheim HRM conference is a cutting edge event with 7,500 delegates, of which 4,500 were from the USA, but the UK had the next largest representation with 500 academics attending. Nearly 6,000 papers were submitted and over 1000 sessions delivered, with 82 countries being represented in the programme.
Members of the HR group at Portsmouth University have been attending for several years and share their experience. First, Gary Rees reports on a session looking at HR practices in Europe. This is followed by Charlotte Rayner writing on a session about ‘The meaning of work’. Finally, Liza Howe-Walsh tells us about a session from SHRM leader Wayne Cascio on selection practices.
