Abstract
Police engagement in UK schools suffered a significant reduction in funding and resources during the austerity era; but trials of Your Choice Matters - a Problem-Based Learning and engagement exercise highlights the potential for reducing vulnerability to knife crime and hate crime among young people. 246 year 10 students in Portsmouth comprehensive schools were surveyed before and after a bespoke lesson hosted with a uniformed police officer, with resulting positive attitudinal changes yet 12.5% of those surveyed stated they would continue to carry a knife.
