Informed Consent with Children in Social Research: Identifying the Challenges and Exploring the Solutions.
This session identifies the challenges that researchers have to navigate when undertaking research with children in a number of contexts such as young children in pre-school or nursery, those with a learning disability and carrying out research in the classroom. It applies the analysis of 23 semi-structured interviews with experienced social scientists. The results expose the challenges and make recommendations suggesting tactics and relational tools that can be applied to research practice in the future. Together we will reflect on creative approaches to gaining informed consent with children and the purpose of relational tools that underpin activity in the field.
