A Vision for a Green City: The County of London Plan

Activity: Talk or presentation typesInvited talk

Fabiano Lemes De Oliveira (Speaker), 12 Oct 2018

In July 1943, almost exactly 75 years ago, the London County Council unveiled its plan for the postwar reconstruction of London. Where the Beveridge Report (1942) promised an attack on the five giants of austerity and deprivation, the County of London Plan gave a vision of a brighter physical world for Londoners after the Second World War and it became a bestseller even during the conflict. The sympoisum examined a key moment in London’s history when Londoners were planning
for a postwar future in the middle of the Blitz addressing intractable problems around
development and housing which resonate today.
