A new model of placement learning hasbeen introduced by the University of Portsmouth incorporating non-assessedplacements within non-traditional areas ofhealth and social care. These offer anopportunity for adult nursing students togain experience in placements not normallyassociated with adult nursing as well asareas which would be unable to supportassessed placements. These placementhave been well evaluated and have allowedstudents to challenge their preconceptionsof nursing, gain broader understanding ofhealth and social care, develop transferableskills and enhance their employability andcareer options.
