Enhancing and professionalising training for new police recruits and police tutor constables.
Description of impact
Charman’s research has had a significant impact both locally and nationally on the tutoring of new police recruits. Following the dissemination of her research monograph on policing cultures to senior Hampshire Constabulary staff, they developed recommendations and policy which transformed police recruits’ training. Charman’s work has subsequently informed new national College of Policing tutoring standards which have been implemented for processing all new police recruits, including the Government pledged 20,000 police officers. This research has fundamentally changed both local force policy and practice and national policing guidelines for the training and development of new police recruits and tutor constables.
