Future Challenges to Deterrence

Impact: Public Policy Impacts

Description of impact

Major General Clinton Crosier will be visiting the University of Portsmouth to discuss future challenges associated with the contemporary understanding of the strategy of deterrence. He is keen to promote new, innovative approaches to this subject and is keen to have a discussion with staff and students. Traditionally, deterrence has been associated with the prevention of the use of nuclear weapons. 21st Century deterrence, however, now includes a much wider range of threats, these include drone warfare, cyber threats, space warfare, new weapons technologies and international terrorism. As well as, human security, migration and public opinion. This broad array of issues can contribute to future deterrence planning. Please come along and contribute to the discussions.
