School of Engineering
Organisational unit: School
The School of Engineering conducts quality research in response to practical demands in defence, healthcare, manufacturing, marine and service industries, which is supported by grants from the EPSRC, the MRC, the Royal Society, EU, MOD, industry and UK charities.
Our labs are equipped with start-of-the-art experimental and computational hardware and softeware applicable to mechanical, electronic and computer engineering. Research, business engagement and consultancy are integrated with learning and teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, so that our taught courses remain relevant to technological advances and demands of industry.
Our primary Research Centre, Mechanical Behaviour of Materials (MBM) has an international reputation for applied research into fatigue and fracture of engineering materials and components. It is also a leading centre for applied research into biomechanics and biomaterials in musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and biological systems. Other Research Groups are organised into two key areas, Mechanical Engineering and Intellegent and Networked Systems.
