Dr Adrian Benfell
I am a Senior Lecturer in Business Information Systems in the Faculty of Business and Law. I cover a range of subjects including Customer Relationship Management and E-Commerce. My research specifically relates to capturing user requirements for new information systems utilising a range of analysis and design techniques drawn from contemporary software development practices but enhanced by semiotic and social theory. I apply semiotic theory not only user requirements for building new information systems, but also to web services and service oriented architecture. I have worked on various projects external to academia, notably conducting training and consultancy courses in the Unified Modelling Language and Customer Relationship Management. These projects helped me to appreciate the full complexities associated with all aspects of information systems.
My research is linked to capturing user requirements employing a range a techniques for information system development. Example techniques are drawn from semiotic theory, sociological paradigms and contemporary software development practices. I followed this particular line of interest throughout my MPhil and PhD.
