Dr Brian Chappell

I joined the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies (ICJS) as a senior lecturer in April 2011 following completion of a thirty year career with the Metropolitan Police, New Scotland Yard. I served as a detective at all ranks up to the rank of Detective Chief Inspector, where I was a member of the senior management team within the Specialist Crime Directorate. Throughout my career, I have worked with a number of specialist departments with national and international responsibilities. I was awarded MBE in 2009.

Prior to joining ICJS, I had also lectured and presented to wide diversity of audiences both within the UK and overseas, which have included senior government officials, multi agency partners and academia, notably the Australian Federal Police Management of Serious Crime Course (MOSC) in Canberra, Australia in February 2008, where I was invited as the international keynote speaker and student mentor to senior investigators and managers. Amongst numerous other training courses and seminars, I have also presented and facilitated a plenary session to an audience of law enforcement officers and prosecutors at the Norwegian Narcotics Conference in Norway in 2008 (500 delegates).  I also regularly taught to the Advanced CID course and Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) programme at the MPS Crime Academy, and also at the former National Police Improvement Agency (NPIA), now the College of Policing.
