Fernando De Carvalho Lopes

I am an experienced Infection Prevention and Control and IV Access Specialist, NMC Registered Nurse with expertise in the provision of exemplary care to maintain the health, safety and development of different groups of patients with complex care needs. I truly believe that it is possible to change people's lives by evidence-based practice. I have worked in Higher Education, across two institutions and countries for over 5 years and in healthcare for over ten years; covering a range in clinical, education and research roles. My clinical experience covers a variety of roles and settings (from infection prevention to acute medical settings). I am the module coordinator for the Level 6 BN (Hons) ‘Complexities of Adult Nursing’ module, and support teaching across several modules.

I am used to working at a strategic level establishing and maintaining network links with a range of external partners and stakeholders. Over the years I ensured that my expertise is seen as a resource within and outside my workplace working in partnership with government departments, national agencies and key partners. I have been an advocate of therapeutic, economic and patient experience outcomes improvement for patients with healthcare-associated infections.

I trained as a Nurse at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, Portugal in July 2010. I hold an MSc in Biotechnology for Health Sciences from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, Portugal (2013) and two Postgraduate Certificates, Medical Education for Hospital Educators (The University of Winchester, 2017) and in Healthcare-Associated Infection Control (University College of London, 2019).

Research Interests
