Biography

I graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2008 with a first class honours degree in Psychology. I was then awarded an ESRC funded 1+3 studentship at the University of Reading, from which I completed a Masters in Research Methods in Psychology in 2009, followed by a PhD in 2013. My PhD thesis focuses on the development of emotion regulation across the first three years of life, as well as the parenting behaviours which influence this development over time.

Research Interests

In addition to continuing research on children’s development of emotion regulatory abilities, I have been working at the University of Portsmouth since October 2012 as a Research Fellow on the ‘Changing Mindsets’ project: Hoskins, S. & Devonshire, V. (2012). Changing Mindsets £368,460- funded by Education Endowment Fund. The research team has now been awarded funding from the National College of Teaching and Leadership to deliver training to over 100 UK primary and secondary schools as part of the ‘Closing the Gap’ project. I have also been working as an Honorary Assistant Psychologist at the University of Reading on a Randomised Clinical Trial aimed at investigating the effectiveness of childhood anxiety treatments.
