Dr Gemma Milligan
I joined the University of Portsmouth in March 2008 as a Research Assistant and I currently hold a lecturing position in Sport, Exercise and Health. My research focus is in the area of occupational physiology, having worked for such organisations as the Military, Energy Institute, RNLI and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. Previous employment was at the Environmental Medicine Unit at the Institute of Naval Medicine (INM) for 4 years as a Scientific Officer (Occupational Physiology). I am also a Strength and Conditioning Coach for a National 2 rugby union squad. I am an accredited BASES Physiologist and Supervisor and chartered scientist.
My research focuses on occupational physiology specifically designing, implementing and training of physical employment standards for the Military, RNLI, HM Coastguards and the Oil and Gas Industry and the impact of age, sex and extreme environments on the ability of individuals to perform their job.
