Ms Helena Yu
I am a first year PhD student studying at the School of Languages and Area Studies. My main area of research is second language teacher development. My research will mainly employ qualitative methods focusing on observations, interviews and interpretative analysis. As a language major, I am interested in both English and Chinese languages as well as the cultures they embody. I have obtained both Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in English language and literature.
I have taught English as a University lecturer in Chinese universities for 20 years. As a university teacher of English, I am intrigued by the process of learning and teaching and have always kept myself informed of new teaching theories and methodologies. I have written several articles and papers on teaching and learning, which have been published in the Chinese academic press. I am very keen to increase my knowledge of western language learning practices and work with other people in this field who are exploring the world of second language acquisition.
