Summary

Dr Imam Arafat is a senior lecturer in accounting and financial management. He joined Portsmouth Business School in August 2016. Prior to that, Imam spent three years at the University of Dundee as a tutor where he taught various financial and management accounting modules to undergraduate and postgraduate students. He completed PhD in Accounting & Finance from the same university. His PhD thesis, fully funded by the University of Dundee,   examined the institutional determinants of fair value disclosure of listed companies. Prior to that, Imam secured overall distinction with distinction in all modules in his Master of Research degree. He was awarded prestigious ‘the most outstanding masters student of the University of Dundee, School of Business’ for his extraordinary academic performance. In tandem with PhD, Imam completed ACCA qualification to fortify his professional accountancy skills and is now an affiliated member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

Biography

In 2007: Completed Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) professional qualification from the ACCA. 

In 2010: Completed BA(Hons) in Applied Accounting from Anglia Ruskin University (First Class)

In 2013: Completed Master of Research (MRes) in Accounting and Finance from the University of Dundee (Distinction). 

In 2013: Started working at the University of Dundee as a tutor. 

In 2016: Started Working at the University of Portsmouth as a lecturer.

In 2017: Completed ACCA qualification 

In 2018: Completed PhD in Accounting from the University of Dundee. 

 

Teaching Responsibilities

Imam currently contributes to the following units: 

Business Accounting; 

Financial Reporting; 

Accounting and Finance undergraduate dissertation; 

Accounting and finance postgraduate dissertation; and

MSc Forensic accounting dissertation. 

 

Committee membership and administrative duties: 

Imam is a member of the Faculty of Business & Law research ethics committee and accounting and finance subject group representative to the library and learning centre. He is also the moderation lead for various undergraduate and postgraduate units within the subject group.

 

 

 

Research Interests

Research interests include:

 

Accounting regulations;

Fair value accounting;

Corporate mandatory and voluntary disclosure;

The impact of institutional and corporate governance factors on firm performance and compliance with regulations.
