Mrs Kirsten Farrell-Savage
External Promotion and Liaison Lead
I trained as a Diagnostic Radiographer at the University of Exeter, and undertook clinical placements at Torbay, Musgrove Park and Royal Devon and Exeter Hospitals. My clinical career started at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton and I later moved to Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, where I specialised in CT and MRI. During this time, I undertook postgraduate units in Forensic Radiography, Paediatric Imaging and Research Theory and Practice at Birmingham City University.
I joined the University of Portsmouth in 2011 as a lecturer and progressed to Senior Lecturer in 2013. The same year, I completed my Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education through the University of Portsmouth and became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
In 2013-14, I undertook postgraduate units in ‘Imaging in Medicine’ and ‘Further Materials in Medical Physics’ through the Open University.
In October 2015 I was appointed as External Promotion and Liaison Lead for the School of Health Sciences and Social Work. My key responsibilities include student recruitment, outreach and public engagement, marketing, global engagement, timetable coordination, induction coordination, alumni relations and employability across all courses within the School. I am the Academic with Admissions Disability Responsibility and support and signpost students and applicants who declare a health condition and/or disability. As a result, I have an excellent working relationship with staff in the Additional Support and Disability Advice Centre (ASDAC).
Within this role, I am part of the School Management Group, working closely with the Head of School, Associate Heads (Education, Innovation and Research), Programme Leads for Nursing and Allied Health and Social Care, and the Professional Practice Lead. I am responsible for the strategic development, planning and implementation of the School’s strategies and policies through chairing the School Marketing, Recruitment and Admissions Committee.
I co-ordinate and oversee externally-facing promotion and liaison activities for all courses across the School, including development and maintenance of the School’s promotional materials and activities.
My current role enables me to shape the strategic direction of both the School and the Faculty of Science through membership of the School Research Committee, Faculty Global Engagement Committee, Faculty Marketing, Recruitment and Admissions Committee, and the Faculty Outreach and Public Engagement Group. I am an active member of project teams and strategic project boards relating to the development of new programmes.
My doctoral study commenced in 2015 and focuses on the use of Values Based Recruitment as a predictor of academic attrition and achievement within health and social care courses.
I currently teach BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography and Medical Imaging, BSc (Hons) Radiotherapy and Oncology and BSc (Hons) Criminology and Forensic Studies students.
