Lesley Roberts

I have a background in political science, history, and sociology. I have been studying military, veteran, and service personnel issues for over a decade. My PhD research project allowed me to further my interest by exploring the life stories of ex service personnel who have experienced a traumatic injury, such as limb loss, hearing loss, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, or blindness. Using life stories, I examined the physical, emotional, social and institutional dimensions of life during recovery, rehabilitation, and onwards. My qualitative research drew upon the multidisciplinary fields of sociology, critical military studies, illness narratives, traumatic injury, critical disability studies, psychology, ageing, embodiment, and identity.
