Mr Mal Craghill
Senior Teaching Fellow
Mal Craghill joined the University of Portsmouth in 2017 following a 30-year career in the Royal Air Force. As a Senior Teaching Fellow in Strategic Studies on the Portsmouth Business School team at the Royal Air Force College, Cranwell, Mal teaches strategy, leadership, military history and air power to around 700 Royal Air Force officer cadets each year, and leads modules on air power fundamentals and war and the international system. Mal's military career included overseas tours in Germany and America, numerous operational and training deployments across the world flying Tornado aircraft in the ground attack role, command of the MOD's Unmanned Aircraft Test & Evaluation unit and the Air Warfare School, and three years working on international relationships in the Ministry of Defence. Away from work Mal enjoys mountain and road biking, hill walking, water sports and craft beer, and he is a fully qualified advanced bicycle mechanic and wheel builder.
Mal's research interests focus on contemporary global political and military challenges.
