Mr Malcolm Maciver
My current role is as a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader to the University of Portsmouth's Master of Optometry programme. Following completion of a BSc in Applied Mathematics at the University of St Andrews I undertook the Masters of Optometry course at Aston University, achieving First Class Honours with a thesis on the evidence based management of ocular surface and lid margin disease and receiving the Johnson and Johnson Prize for Clinical Practice. I undertook the College of Optometrists Pre-Registration program in independent practice in Hampshire, following which I practiced as a primary care optometrist providing specialist dry eye, binocular vision, visual stress clinics in addition to routine optometric care. I have also been accredited to operate under the NHS community Primary Eye Acute Referral Service & Minor Eye Casualty Service.
I am a GOC registered Optometrist (01-28785), and Member of the College of Optometrists, Association of Optometrists and Orthoptic & Binocular Vision Association. I represent the University of Portsmouth on the UK Optometry Schools Council and am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers.
My research interests centre around the visual implications of brain injury, developmental, eye movement and reading disorders and contact lenses & ocular surface disease.
